We are excited to announce the Performing Arts Center at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), opening in early 2026 after seven years of design and construction!
The facility unites all performing arts programs in a single location, serving more than 19,000 students as well as the broader community.
The 73,337-square-foot center includes a 500-seat variable acoustic theater, recording studio suite, large music and dance rehearsal spaces, scene shop, dedicated percussion instruction classroom, ensemble practice rooms, teaching studios, faculty offices, and public gathering areas. Originally designed as two buildings and ultimately realized as one integrated facility, the project was completed at a construction cost of $127 million.
The main theater is designed to support a wide range of performances and features natural variable acoustic tracked soft goods, orchestra shell towers with overhead canopy, an orchestra pit lift capable of accommodating an additional 39 audience seats, and high-performance acoustic treatments throughout. Exceptional sound and vibration isolation between stacked performance and rehearsal spaces, along with an essentially silent HVAC system in critical areas, ensure optimal conditions for performance and recording.
The Performing Arts Center is the result of a collaborative effort with HGA Architects and Apeiro Design Theatre Consultants, delivering a state-of-the-art facility that supports arts education, performance, and community engagement.
