Agave Regional Branch Library

Phoenix, AZ

The Agave Library is an exceptional example of contemporary desert architecture by award-winning architect Will Bruder. The $6.65M building, opened in Spring 2010, is a functionally beautiful pavilion of masonry, metal and glass set in lush natural desert landscaping with a stunning skylit exposed wood truss ceiling. This 25,400sf open plan space with 24' height ceiling and predilection toward very basic, raw materials, faced numerous acoustical and AV challenges, including speech privacy/sound isolation of a computer training area and teen area, background noise control from multiple rooftop units plus a meeting room for community activities. Using a palette of ordinary building materials creatively, the design team worked toward solutions that artfully blend the aesthetic and functional goals of this unique project.
