This national visitor center encompasses several components and houses a multi-media theatre as well as a space for interpretive display will depict the events and history of World War II in the Mariana Islands. The Visitor’s Center principal building provides 10,000sf for exhibit displays, 120-seat AV theatre, lobby, retail sales area, and administrative wing for the National Park Service, public restrooms, and storage.
Another component is a Memorial Garden displaying the names of the 936 CNMI residents who died during World War II and provides a reflective and contemplative atmosphere with pools, water features, landscaping, and seating areas. MCH involvement in acoustics and AV systems design involved the theater, exhibit areas, and improvements to the amphitheater stage configuration and media systems. Built to hold large events and ceremonies, this outdoor amphitheater consists of a 4,000sf stage, bleacher and berm seating for 1,200, overhead lighting, restrooms, a parking lot, and adjacent grassy areas. The project completed its several phases by 2004 for an undisclosed sum.
